To begin with, the BSDC was inaugurated in 1925 for children between the ages of 10 and 18. The Bembridge Optimist Association became an integrated part of the BSDC at the end of 2008 and comprises the junior section of the Club; expanding the BSDC which today caters for those aged 8 to 17.

The BSDC continues to be run as a sub-set of the Bembridge Sailing Club by its Captain and a Committee of volunteers, largely drawn from parents with children of Cadet age, who have individual responsibility for the many facets of the Dinghy Club both on and off water.

Dominic Powell took over as Captain of the BSDC at the end of the 2014 season.

The BSDC owns a growing dinghy fleet which is available for the Cadets to use during the season.

Our top sailors have been competing in the Cowes Dinghy Regatta at Gurnard (the pinnacle of a Cadet’s sail training prior to becoming an Instructor) every July since 2005. In addition some of our cadets have sailed at National and World Sailing Events.
