Seasonal RYA Club Coach and Assistant Race Officer

Bembridge Sailing Club seeks to appoint a seasonal RYA Chief Instructor/Club Coach to join their team for 2023.  Reporting to the Club Secretary/General Manager, the Club Coach is part of a team responsible for the development and successful running of all on water activities and training at the Club as well as acting as Race Officer as and when required.

The role will combine running our RYA training centre and providing support for Club sailing and powerboat activities whilst maintaining a safe and compliant RYA approved teaching structure, ensuring statutory and RYA regulations are met including safety, licences and accreditation.

Due to the Seasonal demands of this role, more hours will be required during the summer months and part time hours during quieter periods. Weekend work will be required throughout the year to meet the demands of the Club. The Club Coach must hold and maintain, at minimum, RYA Senior Instructor and associated qualifications, to enable them to be designated as the Club’s Chief Instructor, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to communicate effectively with members.

We are now looking for two talented chefs to work alongside each other and lead a seasonal team that will excel in all culinary matters, from a rotating lunch and evening menu, to a street food outdoor concept and full event dinners catering for 60-80 guests.

Chef Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor and manage a culinary team.
  • Develop and plan menus and daily specials.
  • Create prep lists for kitchen crew.
  • Manage food costing and inventory.
  • Maintain standards for food storage, rotation, quality and appearance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health codes and regulations.
  • Establish maintenance and cleaning schedules for equipment, storage and work areas.
  • Assist in scheduling staff and human resources processes as required.

Chef Qualifications / Skills:

  • Proven track record of event catering in excess of 50 guests.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques and practices.
  • Understanding of menu and recipe development techniques.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Ongoing awareness of culinary trends.
  • Understanding of health and sanitation laws.
  • Excellent knife-handling skills.
  • Applied wine and beverage knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum NVQ 2 or other.
  • Formal culinary training / culinary degree.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in high-volume kitchens.
  • Previous kitchen management experience (beneficial).
  • Food hygiene certification.
